Next iPhone To Have Larger ScreenNext iPhone To Have Larger Screen
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the next iPhone, expected in the fall, will have a screen at least 4 inches diagonally. The move will counter competition from Samsung, Motorola, Nokia and other smart phone vendors who have been using even larger screens.
A report in the Wall Street Journal cites "people familiar with the situation" as saying that the next iPhone, expected in the fall, will have a larger screen, at least 4 inches diagonally.
Every iPhone since the first one, released in 2007, has had a 3.5 inch diagonal display.
The report says that the company is working with several display manufacturers on the product, specifically "...South Korea's LG Display Co., Japan's Sharp Corp. and Japan Display Inc., a new company created last month by three Japanese companies and the government..."
The move appears designed to counter much larger screens in competitors' phones, such as the 4.8 inch display in the Samsung Galaxy S III.
After years of sticking with one size, Apple is also rumored to be building an iPad with a smaller display.
