The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is the company's first attempt to bring a touch-based phone to market. It went on sale at the end of November in several European countries, and has sold 1 million units so far. Today, Nokia fans in London lined up in the wee hours of the morning to get their hands on the touch screen device.A fellow mobile blogger over at All About Symbian has been liveblogging via Twitter his experience in London today at the U.K. launch of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Some of his comments include:

"Overall though was a unique experience and rather un-Nokia like. Amazed how busy things were given the weather and crunch."

"While it wasn't hyped as such there was a good atmosphere and people were being very British about rain."

Nokia reports the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has seen successful sales starts in a number of markets, including Hong Kong and Moscow where the device sold out within hours of the sales start. Earlier today at the official sales start of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in the U.K., more than 150 customers queued outside the Nokia Flagship Store on London's Regent Street to be among the first to own the device.

Okay, so we're not talking throngs of thousands who waited the iPhone and the iPhone 3G, but that's still a decent turn out.

On the heels of the U.K. launch, it turns out Nokia has shipped 1 million of the devices. That's a pretty successful launch for any phone. That number is sure to surge now that it is available in the U.K.

Nokia has yet to announce when the North American variant of the 5800 XpressMusic will become available.
