BANGALORE, India — As many as 10 suppliers to Nokia Corp. will establish operations near the southern Indian city of Chennai, where a Nokia manufacturing facility was inaugurated on Saturday (March 11).
While between eight to 10 Nokia suppliers will set up operations at the Nokia Telecom Industry Park, two—Aspocomp Group and Perlos Corp.—have already committed investments of $70 million and $12 million, respectively. Aspocomp will expand its pc-board manufacturing facility; Perlos is the world’s largest supplier of mechanics for the telecommunications industry.
Nokia will manufacture both wireless handsets and network infrastructure equipment at its $150 million factory. "We estimate that India will become the world’s second biggest mobile device market when measured by volumes in the year 2010," said Nokia Chairman and CEO Jorma Ollila.
