Outspring Mail, a mail client that learns by watching you, got an upgrade recently that fixed some bugs in an early version, and also clarified its pricing. The software is available for an introductory price of $59.Last week, I described Outspring as promising, but buggy and overpriced. Or, rather, two blogs I respect evaluated the software and were less than glowing in its reviews. TidBITS said the software is "a little rough around the edges" and Daring Fireball's John Gruber said it crashed when he tried to run it.

And the $95 price tag is steep for a Mac e-mail program, I noted.

After posting our initial blog, I got an e-mail from Outspring founder Jeff Baudin, who said that the cause of Gruber's crash was that Gruber had removed Arial, the default font for the application, from the system. Gruber confirmed that was the case.

"Granted, we should have had code in place to check for this, but it being a pre-installed system font, we never imagined or anticipated it not being there. We've posted a v1.0.2 update that corrects this and many other oddities we found with our first release," Baudin said.

He added: "As for the price, $95 is MSRP. We have an intro price of $59 and retailers and distributors likely won't be charging MSRP, either."
