Oz Communications unveiled a mobile-phone application to allow users of online social networks to browse, post comments and upload photos and videos.

The privately held Oz sells messaging software that enables cellular phone users to send and receive e-mail and instant messages from their AOL, Microsoft MSN and Yahoo accounts. The latest offering would support social networks like MySpace.com, owned by News Corp., and YouTube, recently bought by Google.

The new product, which is set for release next year, would be pre-loaded on handsets, and provide a user interface similar to the PC-based experience, the Canadian company said.

While the company did not announce any partnerships, Skuli Mogensen, chief executive and founder of Oz, said in a statement that the company is "working closely with many of the social networking sites and look forward to delivering a great user experience on mass market phones in close collaboration with our mobile operator partners."

Wireless carriers using OZ's messaging software include Boost Mobile, Cingular, Sprint, T-Mobile USA and Virgin Mobile USA. Handset manufacturers include Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Oz claims its messaging application is on more than 70 million mobile devices.
