Palm Debuts Much-Improved Facebook App For WebOSPalm Debuts Much-Improved Facebook App For WebOS
On the heals of releasing webOS 1.4 for the Pre and Pixi, Palm has made an updated Facebook application available to all webOS devices.
On the heals of releasing webOS 1.4 for the Pre and Pixi, Palm has made an updated Facebook application available to all webOS devices.Though the update brings Facebook from 1.0 to 1.1, Palm actually rewrote the entire application for its webOS platform from scratch. According to Palm, the revised app slips its tendrils further into the roots of webOS and Palm's Synergy contacts app to make it perform better and appear more seamless to end users. Similar to what is available on the Android platform, users can instantly view Facebook info from the Contacts app, or use the Photo app to upload directly to Facebook. The full list of improvements includes:
Enhanced Inbox - Now, your inbox lets you compose, send, and reply, so you can always access your Facebook messages.
Photo albums - Now you can view photo albums from all your friends, not just the photos in their news feeds. Uploading photos is easier as well, and includes the ability to add captions.
Profiles - The new app lets you view users' profiles, whether they are your friends or not. View and post to their walls, view their information, and see their photo albums (subject to privacy settings, of course).
Events and birthdays - Now you can see upcoming birthdays from your friend list as well as upcoming events.
Friend search - Easily find your friends using the Friend Search feature. This takes you to their profile, where you can see and post to their wall, view their information, and look at their photos.
Palm was quick to point it out in a blog post that this application was written by novice webOS developers. It will continue to make improvements to the application over time and use its experience as a way to help developers more easily create webOS apps.
The best way to snag the update is to do so via the webOS update tools rather than re-download the app through the Apps Catalog. The apps is free. Happy updating -- and Facebooking.
