A Palm PDA, the Tungsten T|X will be able to receive broadcast TV via the MobiTV service, the company announced Wednesday.

So far, MobiTV has been available only via cellular operators and delivered to cell phones. Delivery to the Palm PDA will be via Wi-Fi networks, according to the company.

"This launch signifies MobiTV's foray into non-cellular network environments," Paul Scanlan, MobiTV's co-founder and COO, said in a statement. We are redefining mobile television or television on the go by freeing subscribers from network limitations and availability."

Palm claimed in a statement that its PDA customers asked for the service.

"For many PDA customers, multimedia applications have become THE white-hot solution," Ken Wirt, Palm's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said.

Among the devices that already support the service are Palm's Treo 650. The companies did not say how much the service for PDAs would cost. The service delivers programming from sources such as CNBC, NBC, ESPN, Fox News and CNN.
