Trying to plug the security holes in its RealPlayer and RealOne Player media player, RealNetworks Inc. says it will post patches by Dec. 25.

Security issues have plagued RealNetworks in recent weeks as security experts identified numerous problems with the Windows versions of the players. After an initial attempt to fix some of the problems failed last month, RealNetworks got serious and reviewed all the code of RealPlayer and RealOne Player.

The patches, which RealNetworks says will be available by Christmas and posted to its Web site, will include a fix to the most serious problem, which could allow malicious attackers access to a user's computer.
