Topio, which makes software for data recovery over storage area networks, last week closed $10 million in venture-capital investment from Sequoia Capital and Sigma Partners, raising its funding total to $13 million. Topio, founded in 2001 by a group of former IBM and Cisco Systems executives, also says that Sigma managing director and former Cisco CIO Pete Solvik will join its board.
Topio's SANSafe software helps companies recover data across IP networks that include servers, storage systems, databases, and apps. It runs on Solaris and Windows 2000; versions for AIX, HP-UX, and Linux are in development.
SANSafe competes with DataCore and HP products, says Mobility Group analyst John Webster, but it's less complicated.
