SAS Institute has bought Verbind's customer-behavior tracking software for an undisclosed price, and Verbind is being dissolved.

The software monitors customer activity such as bank transactions and can trigger responses to changes in behavior. It can spot when a customer's paychecks are no longer being deposited and credit-card balances are rising--signs of a lost job. The software also detects fraud.

SAS plans to sell the software as a standalone product and next year with its SAS Interaction Management software.
