Skyfire has just taken their browser and upgraded it for Windows Mobile phones. The browser now supports Flash and Silverlight right in the browser just like your desktop. It also supports Ajax, which is what Gmail and other sites use to easily change what is on the screen without forcing a refresh. The Skyfire blog has a video that demos some of the new features and in the upper right of that page is a link to the download site.
The browser uses Skyfire servers to optimize data before it goes to your phone. This differs from many mobile browsers, including Mobile Internet Explorer, that download everything to your device and then use device resources to render the page. The larger and more complex the page, the more painful this is. With Skyfire 1.5, the servers do all of the heavy lifting and you just see what you are supposed to - the end result.
Other improvements include support for high resolution VGA and WVGA screens found on some of the newer WinMo devices. As with all devices today, Skyfire knows finger friendliness is important so there are more user interface tweaks that allow you to keep the stylus tucked away in the silo. You can just tap, swipe and flick away with 1.5.
The browser is free. Skyfire hopes to get paid via search revenues, so download and give it a test drive. It works with touch and non-touch screen devices.
