The wireless industry is officially having a Big Day. Hot on the heels of HTC's Touch2 announcement, comes Sony Ericsson swinging for the fences with a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone of its own. The Xperia X2 seemingly has it all and rocks the most insane spec list ever.
The wireless industry is officially having a Big Day. Hot on the heels of HTC's Touch2 announcement, comes Sony Ericsson swinging for the fences with a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone of its own. The Xperia X2 seemingly has it all and rocks the most insane spec list ever.Since Microsoft announced that Windows Mobile 6.5 will become available on October 6, its handset partners must have felt it was high time to start announcing some devices. Earlier today, HTC debuted the Touch2. Now, Sony Ericsson has a big splash of its own to make.
The Xperia X2 is the second Xperia phone to come from Sony Ericsson, and it, too, will run Windows Mobile 6.5. On top of WinMo 6.5, the X2 will also come with Sony Ericsson's panels user interface. According to Sony Ericsson, 14 panels will be pre-loaded on the X2's home screen, and users can choose to download an additional 16 panels if they wish. Additional panels include some from CNN, MySpace, Google, Skype and more.The layout and arrangement of the panels is fully user customizable.
Like the Xperia X1, the X2 features a large, high-rez, 3.2-inch touch display that slides out to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard for messaging support. It also has nearly every radio known to mankind stuffed in there, including quad-band GSM/EDGE and 850/1900/2100MHz HSPA for 3G in the U.S. Also included is stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
One of the main features of the X2 will be its 8.1 megapixel camera. This monster of an imaging device comes with autofocus, geo-tagging, video capture, flash and support for TV out. It will also have a sweep panorama shooting mode that allows users to pan the camera from side to side to capture a wide-angle image.
It will also boast a full media player, support for microSD cards up to 16GB, and a full range of Sony Ericsson music features, such as album art, an equalizer, PlayNow and stereo speakers.
Of course, with WinMo 6.5 comes support for Exchange, Office Mobile, and seamless integration with Office tools.
The X2 will be available at some point during the fourth quarter, though Sony Ericsson didn't disclose where, or how much it will cost.
