IT now can manage tablet users as they remotely access their desktop computers using Splashtop Pro, just released by Splashtop Inc.

The company's consumer product, Splashtop Remote Desktop, has for some time allowed remote access to Mac and Windows desktop computers from iOS and Android devices, as well as from other desktop PCs. The company says the product especially shines on multimedia performance as they work closely with chipset companies to optimize their code.

Splashtop Pro lets IT manage and monitor users as well as deploy and set policy on use of the product. Users can be restricted to access by time of day or connection type; for instance, a user may be allowed to connect from inside the LAN, but not from the Internet. Administrators can see who is using the product, and when and from where they are connecting.

Computers can be set up for shared access. Connections are encrypted and also work inside VPNs.

Splashtop says the product can scale up to hundreds of users, but that it is focusing on companies with five to 25 users. When asked, the company was unsure whether such companies typically have an administrator to run Spashtop Pro.
