It's about time someone stepped up and offered a useable optimization platform for smartphones. Do your smartphone applications run too slow? Then check out the mobile optimization solution from Stampede Technologies. This week at Interop Stampede released client software for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 smartphones designed to speed up applications.

I had a chance to check out the software today with Gordon Dorworth, Stampede president & CEO. While this was a controlled show demo, the application definitely improved operating time on applications. The improved speed of Internet Explorer Mobile was impressive.

Dorworth stated that he plans to target his solution at mobile workers, and in particular vendors like Motorola who target vertical markets. "We see a great overlap between their customers and Windows Mobile users," he said.

What about other mobile platforms? Dorworth said that he's interested in working with Palm and that he's especially excited about working with mobile Linux. When I questioned him about the disappointing lack of Linux in the handset market, he seemed unfazed.

Regardless, I liked what I say of the Stampede solution and I welcome more application optimization apps. Given the limited bandwidth and high latency of cellular networks mobile professionals need all the speed we can get.
