Sun Microsystems on Tuesday reported growth in server shipments for its recently completed fiscal year, including more than 100% growth in its x86-based server shipments.

For the year ended June 30, Sun reported a net loss of $11 million on revenue of $11.07 billion, compared with a net loss of $388 million on revenue of $7.36 billion in the previous fiscal year. For the fiscal fourth quarter, Sun reported net income of $121 million on revenue of $2.98 billion, compared with net income of $783 million on revenue of $2.07 billion in the same quarter a year ago.

For the year, Sun saw 9% overall server unit growth, with particularly strong growth in one- to eight-way servers, chairman and CEO Scott McNealy says. Unit sales of servers based on Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s Opteron processor were up 105% for the year.

This story was modified on July 28 to correct Sun's quarterly and annual revenue.
