The vast majority of Britons believe that the United Kingdom has outsourced too many jobs to low wage countries like India and China and about one third say the government should take steps to reverse the trend, according to a survey released Wednesday by Deloitte and YouGov, a British polling firm.

According to the survey, 82% of Brits believe no more of the country's jobs should be sent offshore. Some 32% of those surveyed say companies should be forced to repatriate some of the functions they've already shipped out. That's up from 22% who were in favor of forced repatriation when the survey was first carried out a year ago.

Deloitte said it attributes the results to personal concerns about job security. The U.K.'s unemployment rate currently stands at 5.6%, its highest since May, 2000. The figure is considerably lower, however, than unemployment in most European countries.

The survey also showed that the British are pessimistic about their country's place in the world. Just 5% of respondents felt that the UK's status as a global power is on the rise, while 50% said it's declining.
