Symantec is mixing Citrix's XenServer virtualization technology with its own Veritas Storage Foundation storage management solution to create the Veritas Virtual Infrastructure (VVI) in an attempt to grab a piece of the burgeoning virtualization market. In introducing VVI at the Symantec Vision conference in Las Vegas, CEO John Thompson said, "It's the first solution that solves the problem of managing storage for highly dynamic x86 virtual server environments." In Symantec's view, managing storage is a big problem for virtualized servers, since virtual machines can jump from one physical server to another. With the VVI platform, system adminstrators should be able to manage storage for virtual machines the same way they would for a single-server, single-machine setup.

VVI is due out in fall 2008; prices will start at at $4,595 for a two-socket server.information, The Register
