One hyped film opened last week and another came out on video--and both owed their on-time arrival to tape. Digital effects company Weta Digital used a Storage Technology tape library in making The Lord Of The Rings. When the director changed his mind during filming about a scene requiring a visual effect, Weta could pull necessary data in an automated library to re-render the visual effect for the final shot, says Jon Labrie, an IT manager at Weta.

Also, Fox Studios Australia used Exabyte's high-capacity VXA tape drives with for Moulin Rouge soundtrack.
