Like the Dow Industrials and the S&P 500, the Nasdaq dropped on the opening Thursday. But while the other indexes at least flirted with positive territory, the Nasdaq was down for the count. It closed down 0.3%, or 5.76 points, to 1,967.35. Likewise, our information 100 fell 0.2%, or 0.63 point, to close at 317.04.

The S&P 500 ended the day virtually unchanged, having lost 0.12 point, to end at 1,058.41; and the Dow fell 0.11%, or 10.89, to 9,837.94.

The Nasdaq-100 tracking stock fell 0.11%, or 4 cents, to 35.77, on moderate volume of 63 million shares.
