Following Monday's strong market performance, stocks retreated Tuesday. A strong report on worldwide chip sales couldn't buoy the Nasdaq through the afternoon.
The Nasdaq fell 18.15 points, or .9%, to end at 2,039.65. Our information 100 was right behind, falling 1.84 points, or .6%, to close at 331.42. The S&P 500 fell 6.87 points, or .6%, to end the day at 1,149.1; and the Dow fell 86.66 points, or 0.8%, to 10,591.48.
The Nasdaq-100 tracking stock ended down 43 cents, or 1.2%, to close at $36.47 on higher-than-normal trading volume of nearly 91 million shares.
