Executive at one IT company with operations in Bangalore expresses confidence in security measures.
Members of a terrorist group arrested over the weekend in Bangalore, India, appear to have been targeting the country's IT services industry.
Police said that members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group, which seeks to control India's disputed Kashmir region, were found with plans targeting IT companies in Bangalore, the heart of India's new economy, according to a report by India's NDTV television network. Bangalore Police Commissioner S. Mariswamy told the network that he would step up security for IT companies in the city as a result of the arrests.
Despite the threats, an official at one IT services company with significant operations in Bangalore says he believes his company's existing security measures provide adequate protection from physical attack. "We're not planning on doing anything differently," says Francisco D'Souza, chief operating officer at Cognizant Technology Solutions.
Bangalore is home to a number of Indian-based IT services firms and also hosts the Indian operations of a number of major Western outsourcing vendors, including IBM and Accenture.
