Changes are already in the works for the euro, which was widely adopted in Europe Jan. 1. Euro notes already have holograms, metal strips, and other features to foil counterfeiters. But the European Central Bank wants to add radio-frequency identification tags to larger bills, according to Electronic Engineering Times, a sister publication of information.
The Central Bank is mum about the changes; a spokesman for RFID specialist Phillips Semiconductors says the company is aware of the plans.
