Trio Of BlackBerries LeakTrio Of BlackBerries Leak

Research In Motion has remained mum on a series of leaked handsets that have yet to be announced. On Thursday, the touch-and-type BlackBerry Dakota showed up. Now, specs for the unannounced Storm 3, Torch 2 and BlackBerry Curve show off what RIM is planning for later this year.

Storm 3

The Storm has been RIM's main touch-based smartphone for over two years. It wasn't the runaway success that RIM hoped it might be, but plenty of people have found a home in the Storm lineup. Now, RIM is working on the third iteration of the Storm franchise. According to specs snagged by BGR.com, the Storm 3 looks to be the most impressive Storm yet.

It will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor and boast a 3.7-inch 800 x 480 capacitive display. It will offer a 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture, a microSD slot, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, as well as Wi-Fi and support for UMA. As with the Dakota, the Storm 3 will include a magnetometer, proximity sensor, accelerometer. Other features include 8GB of built-in storage, mobile hotspot support, optical trackpad and BlackBerry 6.1.

The Storm 3 could appear as soon as September.

Torch 2

The BlackBerry Torch is barely six months in the market and RIM is already churning out a sequel. The newer Torch doubles processing power from 600MHz to 1.2GHz and improves its HSPA+ powers to 14.4Mbps. The screen looks like it will remain the same, at 3.2 inches with 640 x 480 pixels. Shared specs with the Dakota and Storm 3 include 8GB of built-in storage, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, Wi-Fi, 5-megapixel camera with flash, magnetometer, proximity sensor, accelerometer, and BlackBerry OS 6.1.

The appearance of the Torch 2 is nearly identical to the original, and only the guts of it have been upgraded. It's looks like it will hit the market by the end of the third quarter on AT&T.

Curve

RIM's line of entry-level BlackBerries, the Curve, has been updated incrementally, but none of them is nearly as powerful as RIM's top-of-the-line devices. That will change with the newest generation, which bears the codename Apollo.

RIM appears to be beefing up its low-end device with much better specs, including an improved 480 x 360 display, 5-megapixel camera with flash, NFC, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 and HSPA+ at 7.2Mbps.

There's no solid release dates for any of these devices, and they have not been formally announced by RIM.
