Open-source operating system Ubuntu Linux is about to become certified to work with some of Sun Microsystems' servers.Sun, in fact, is the first of the world's major server computer makers to certify that its hardware works with Ubuntu Linux, according to its founder, Mark Shuttleworth. The certification ensures compatibility and pits Ubuntu against larger rivals Red Hat and Novell. As reported last month on bMighty.com, Ubuntu's developers have been eyeing the server space, most recently releasing its Landscape tool for installing, managing, and maintaining Ubuntu desktop PCs and servers without the complexity of competing offerings.

The Ubuntu Linux operating system has been praised on the desktop for its usability, hardware support and security features, fueling its popularity above all other Linux distros and making life easier for nontechnical SMBs. Ubuntu Linux Version 8.04 is due out later this month.Reuters
