The hardware and services vendor posted solid gains in sales and profit for its fourth quarter and full year.
Unisys Corp. believes it can build on the momentum of 2003, with continued revenue and earnings growth in 2004.
For the year ended Dec. 31, Unisys on Tuesday reported net income of $258.7 million, or 79 cents per share, on revenue of $5.9 billion. That's up from net income of $223 million, or 69 cents per share, on revenue of $5.6 billion in 2002.
Unisys had fourth-quarter net income of $111.5 million, or 34 cents per share, on revenue of $1.64 billion, compared with net income of $89.1 million, or 27 cents per share, on revenue of $1.55 billion in the year-ago quarter.
"This was a very good year for Unisys, delivering consistent results in a volatile industry environment," chairman and CEO Lawrence Weinbach said in a statement.
The company's key accomplishments in 2003 included achieving double-digit growth in business-process outsourcing, enterprise security revenue, and ES7000 server sales.
For 2004, Weinbach projects that Unisys will have "mid-single-digit" revenue growth, with earnings, excluding pension accounting, between 83 and 87 cents per share. In the ongoing quarter, he expects earnings of about 11 to 13 cents, excluding pension accounting, on single-digit revenue growth.
Goals for 2004 include continued growth in services operating margin, enterprise security, and ES7000 server sales, Weinbach says, and to expand market awareness of the Unisys brand.
