In a rare show of cooperation, two groups that have been pushing competing ultra-wideband technologies agreed Thursday they would both press on even though the IEEE committee trying to develop a single standard is being disbanded.

Both the UWB Forum and the WiMedia Alliance said in a joint statement that the time has come for the marketplace to decide which technology will succeed in the long-term. The IEEE 802.15.3a group tasked with settling on a single standard could come to no conclusion about a single standard and voted earlier this week to disband.

"We concur that, at this stage in UWB market development, a more prudent course of action is necessary to allow the market to move forward with the commercialization of multiple UWB technologies," the two groups said in a joint statement.
