Vality Technology Inc. next week will unveil Vality Beacon, the vendor's online catalog search software that Internet retailers deploy to aid Web shoppers.

The product uses fuzzy matching capabilities to match customer queries to terms used in a catalog. That way customers who search for "pants" won't strike out and abandon a Web site because its online catalog uses the term "trousers." The software also uses probabilistic matching for evaluating how closely search results match a query. The software, part of Vality's Product Catalog Solution, is available, with pricing starting at $35,000.
