Early today, a teaser web site went live on VerizonWireless.com which provided some details about the HTC Droid Incredible. The page was later pulled, but not before we learned one specific piece of information: the date the Incredible is primed for launch.Thursday, April 29, is when Verizon Wireless customers will be able to begin pre-ordering the Droid Incredible. At least, that's what the web site said before Verizon Wireless yanked it. The site was live for a while, and featured a large image of the Droid Incredible, which will be the companies latest flagship phone. It strongly resembles the Nexus One, and in fact, shares many of the basics with the Nexus One.

The Droid Incredible will have a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood, accompanied by 576MB RAM/512MB ROM and 8GB of built-in internal storage. It will also have the same 3.7-inch AMOLED display, with 480x800 pixels. As with the Nexus One, the Incredible will run Android 2.1.

The biggest difference between the two devices will be that the Droid Incredible runs HTC's revised Sense UI. The newer version of Sense makes using the Android platform a seamless and much more enjoyable experience. The improvements of HTC's custom overlay include better social networking support and more powerful screen switching tools. The Sense UI was confirmed in the screen shot posted by Verizon Wireless.

The other killer feature will be a massive 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. Eight megapixels puts the Incredible right into the point-and-shoot replacement sweet spot. As long as Verizon Wireless and HTC make the appropriate adjustments to the camera software, it could be a fantastic device. It is probably safe to assume that the device will also support HD video capture.

Other specs include aGPS, digital compass, proximity sensor, light sensor, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and a 3.5mm headset jack.

Verizon Wireless will likely re-publish the site before long, and ramp up the advertising campaign so people know this Droid-killer is on the way. It will be interesting to see if Verizon keeps up the getting-long-in-the-tooth Droid Does ad campaign once the Incredible launches.
