Verizon's Samsung 'Rogue' Messaging Phone

Verizon Wireless introduced the Samsung Rogue Tuesday, and the touchscreen handset packs multiple ways for users to stay connected on the go.

While the device is technically not a smartphone because it uses the TouchWiz interface, the Rogue has various features one would expect from a high-end handset. It has a 3.1-inch AMOLED touch screen with a widget tool bar that enables users to have one-touch access to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, and other Internet-based services.

The Rogue handset also has a four-row slide-out QWERTY keyboard for composing messages, and the can receive corporate and personal e-mails over the air. Additionally, the device can use instant messaging programs on-the-go, download new applications from Verizon's store, surf the Web with a full HTML browser, and view Office and PDF documents.

The feature phone will be able to use 3G data thanks to its support for Verizon's EV-DO Rev. A network, and it will also come preloaded with Verizon's services for navigation, music, and mobile video. The handset will be the first phone to fall under Verizon's new data pricing for feature phones, and users will be able to purchase 25 MB for $9.99 a month, or 75 MB for $19.99 a month.

Samsung's latest device will be a strong multimedia device, as it can play various types of audio files, and it includes a standard headphone jack. Users will be able to sync music from their desktop computer to the phone with included software, and it has a microSD slot for up to 16 GB of memory. The Rogue also has a 3-megapixel camera with a flash that can also record video, and the handset can be purchased for about $100 with a new two-year contract.
