This weekend Verizon Wireless kicked off an online and TV-based ad campaign that takes direct aim at Apple's iPhone. The ad taunts "Everything iDon't, Droid Does." Verizon's first Android phone -- made by Motorola -- is finally ready.Verizon took the gloves off recently with its "There's A Map For That" ad campaign, which targeted AT&T's 3G network. That ad shows coverage maps and claims that Verizon Wireless has five times the 3G footprint that AT&T does. Now, a new ad punches Apple in the face. Here's what the ad says:
"iDon't have a real keyboard" "iDon't run simultaneous apps" "iDon't take night shots" "iDon't allow open development" "iDon't customize" "iDon't run widgets" "iDon't have interchangeable batteries" "Everything iDon't -- Droid Does"
As we all know, Apple has an "i" in front of Phone, Tunes, Photo, Movie, and Cal. Verizon is taking things a bit over the iTop with its "iDon't" campaign, but some of the jabs are well deserved. You can sign up for more information at: www.DroidDoes.com.
I registered for the email alerts and the email I received says this:
You signed up for this email because you think you need a new smartphone. But you don't need a smartphone, you need a supergenius in your pocket. A phone that listens better than the person on the other end of the call. Apps of every shape and size. Emails that let you know what they are before you read them. The greatest web experience on a phone. All working together to get things done.
That's a lot of claims. Can the Droid -- to be made by Motorola -- live up to them? We won't have to wait long to find out. According to the commercials, more information will be available in November.
Here's the TV commercial so you can see for yourself:
