Online adults who listen to, watch, or download media like video almost as much as music, a survey shows.

Fully 46% of U.S. adults who surf the Web watch, listen to, or download online media, according to the poll conducted by Harris Interactive and commissioned by digital marketing agency iCrossing. Of those adults, 58% have either bought or tried to buy some type of media online.

Music tops the charts as the most popular type of media for a third of online media seekers. Video, however, is close behind with a most favorite rating from 31% of survey respondents. Video in the survey was defined as the aggregate of movies, clips, television shows, and live or recorded sporting events.

In the category of favorite "other" media consumed online, respondents included radio broadcasts and podcasts.

The survey, released this week, is based on interviews from June 28 to June 30 with more than 2,100 U.S. adults 18 years old or older. Results have a sampling error of plus or minus 3%.
