Virtual Iron Software has upgraded its namesake server virtualization software to include power management capabilities.Virtual Iron Version 4.4, due out Aug. 25, will feature LivePower, which makes it possible to monitor usage levels of virtualized servers and detect underutilized servers. LivePower can then automatically consolidate virtual machines onto fewer physical servers, shut down the unused servers and restart them when needed. As a result, power usage is optimized to deliver significant cost-savings and environmental benefits across the data center, according to the company, whose customers are mostly SMBs.
Virtual Iron 4.4 will work only with Virtual Iron's proprietary version of the open source Xen hypervisor. The software will cost $799 per server socket.information
