A new Web site points viewers to a long list of Microsoft's security woes.
When Bill Gates sent a memo to Microsoft employees in late January making secure, reliable software the company's new mission, he coined a catch phrase to describe the effort. "Trustworthy Computing is the highest priority for all the work we are doing," he wrote. "We must lead the industry to a whole new level of Trustworthiness in computing."
But Gates apparently didn't act fast enough to claim his new slogan, and now an unknown Internet prankster has dealt his campaign a blow, registering the domain TrustworthyComputing.com and pointing it to a rather embarrassing corner of the Web.
When Web surfers visit the site, they're redirected to a Google archive containing more than 500 news stories documenting Microsoft's less-than-stellar record on the subject. "Microsoft Issues Patch For 'Serious' XP Hole," reads the first entry, followed by "Microsoft To Plug Devastating Browser Download Hole," "Microsoft Security Flaw Threatens Web," and "Still More Microsoft Security Holes."
Microsoft does not have a trademark on the "Trustworthy Computing" slogan and has no comment about the site, according to a spokesman.
