Deciphering what Web 2.0 means to your organization can be challenging but getting up to speed with the lingo, tools and technology can only benefit you and your team. From a content management perspective, Web 2.0 means innovative tools that offer a completely new approach to process and collaboration. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.ReadWriteWeb's Sarah Perez posted a terrific piece over the weekend looking at the big picture of Web 2.0 and its impact on business. Titled Businesses Can't Hide From 2.0: A Look At 2.0's Impact Across Industries, she looks at the tools, trends and technology that drive the Internet today. From the piece:
Web 2.0 technologies lifted the veil of mystery surrounding computing technology and made it accessible to everyone. Today, if you're not staying current with Web 2.0 technologies' impact on business, then you're just not staying current. Period.
The piece covers a lot of ground, starting off with a few of our favorite topics including document collaboration tools, wikis and Office 2.0. She gives numerous examples of each - familiar names such as ZoHo, Google Docs and Atlassian Confluence are present, along with lesser-known players such as wiki provider WetPaint, and collaborative spreadsheet tools such as EditGrid and eXpresso. Although intended as a high-level summary, additional details are available for most of the tools mentioned.
She goes on to examine how various industries and disciplines - ranging from finance to health care to human resources - are impacted by Web 2.0, and gives relevant examples for each area.
The roundup is long, but worth the read. It's filled with nuggets of valuable information and insights it is a solid overview to Web 2.0's intersection of business and technology.
