With much fanfare (and a few hiccups) Apple launched the 3G version of iPhone last Friday.  Steve does a nice job recapping some of the new E 2.0 applications, but I think its also important to look at the broader impact of the iPhone on enterprise collaboration and communication.  To me the real impact of the iPhone is that the walls between desktop/laptop and mobile device are continuing to break down. 

Apple revolutionized the mobile experience with the initial release of iPhone, providing a robust web experience compared with the toothless browsers available on most other mobile devices.  Apples lead has been followed by Samsung and a number of other manufacturers.  With the 3G iPhone, Apple adds enough bandwidth that it is now realistically possible to bring iPhone users into real-time collaborative applications such as web and video conferencing.

Enterprises should look to exploit the opportunity provided by the iPhone 3G to equip their mobile workers with the capabilities to improve productivity regardless of location.
