I have my personal IT heroes. A lot of us, if we're lucky, have at least one of these special pros as a colleague. For me, there's Jerry Horn, who combines app and system expertise with a genuine understanding of what's vital to us as journalists. So, he gets why I need his advice so quickly when we’re on deadline -- and why I might not be a pillar of patience or courtesy when calling for help.

Bad news, Jerry -- you're not eligible for the information-Interop IT Hero Award, since I'm helping judge the contest.

The good news is that everyone else can nominate their personal IT Hero for this first-ever award. Please do so here. Deadline is Feb. 6, so don't delay.

Our idea with the IT Hero award is to promote and celebrate leadership and service within the tech community. We encourage managers to nominate individuals who bring something special to their IT shop, things that might include:

  • Ability to adapt in this changing tech world

  • Innovation

  • Leadership

  • Project management

  • Service to the tech community, like mentoring or volunteering

  • Being the ultimate team player

We'll announce the IT Hero Award winners at the information Elite 100 Gala Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas on April 28. Award finalists will receive complimentary access to the Elite 100 gala dinner and complimentary Total Access passes to Interop, April 27-May 1.

Does your team have an IT Hero worth celebrating? Please nominate her or him today.
