It appears that Windows Phone 7 is about ready to launch. Its biggest launch partner in the US looks like it is ready to announce devices on October 11 and will start selling them in November.Microsoft has had an event planned for a few weeks now on Columbus Day in New York City but they haven't disclosed what will be announced. Speculation has been it will be about Windows Phone 7. Now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that it will be the official launch from Microsoft for its completely rebuilt mobile platform.

Microsoft announced a month ago that they had finished the final build of the operating system and had released it to handset makers and carriers for final testing. In the past it has taken carriers about three to four months to finalize their drivers, radios and network tests but Microsoft worked very closely with them to ensure a speedy release. Their tight controls on hardware specs has also helped reduce the time to market.

AT&T is expected to begin selling devices on November 8. While no specific devices have been mentioned, they will offer one device each from HTC, Samsung and LG Electronics. One of the devices may be HTC's Spark. Boy Genius Report has info on that device. It is a quad-band GSM device with 8GB of on board storage, 512MB of RAM and a 1GHz processor. We'll have to see if it comes with AT&T branding when AT&T officially announces.

Stay tuned for October 11 where hopefully all of the information is revealed and the speculation and rumors can be laid to rest.
