The Westinghouse set uses ultrawideband technology, eliminating the need for data cabling to the TV from a video source.
MANHASSET, N.Y. — Westinghouse Digital Electronics will expand its HDTV offerings with a wireless LCD-based HDTV to be demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show next week. The set incorporates Pulse~LINK's ultrawideband (UWB) technology with an HDMI interface.
Pulse~Link said its CWave Wireless HDMI eliminates the need for data cabling from a TV to a video source like a DVR or a cable feed.
Pulse~LINK recently announced that its FCC-certified CWave UWB chip set was validated in independent testing as the fastest commercial wireless networking technology. The company claimed the tests showed CWave's 1.35 Gb/s over-the-air signaling rate delivered 890 Mb/s throughput at the application layer.
The tests also found that the device's wireless range surpassed 500 Mb/s at 8 feet and more than 115 Mb/s up to 40 feet. Pulse~LINK first demonstrated its wireless HDMI in 2005. It also perfected the use of UWB over coax.
According to the NPD Group/Retail Tracking Service, Westinghouse Digital Electronics was among the top five LCD TV manufacturers in the U.S. during 2007. The estimate is based on unit sales from January through November 2007.
The wireless HDTV will be on display at the CES in Las Vegas, Jan. 7-10.
Westinghouse's wireless HDTV is scheduled for initial commercial release to the digital signage market during the second quarter of 2008.
