Xandros Thursday launched an enterprise version of its Linux operating system that it's promoting as an alternative to Windows for the corporate desktop.

Although based on the company's consumer desktop OS, Xandros Business Desktop Operating System sports several enterprise-class features, said Xandros, including authentication support through Microsoft's ActiveDirectory, support for AMD's 64-bit processors, and support for SAP and Citrix thin clients.

The Linux distribution also supports IBM Terminal Emulators, and will be bundled with Sun's StarOffice 7 application suite.

Xandros Business Desktop will release on Feb. 17, and be sold online by Xandros online, as well as in retail. List price will be $129 per seat, with volume pricing available.
