Yahoo Inc. on Wednesday added content from Gawker Media to its news site, an expansion of the portal's use of non-traditional media.

Available on Yahoo News are stories from five of Gawker's Web sites, which cover topics ranging from politics to celebrity gossip, the Sunnyvale, Calif., company said. Yahoo plans to eventually include content from other Gawker sites on more of its properties, such as Yahoo Entertainment.

"Gawker Media content expands Yahoo!'s non-traditional media library with unique perspectives that provide intelligent, funny and sometimes controversial views of the news events of the day," Scott Moore, head of news and finance and Yahoo, said in a statement.

Gawker, based in New York, publishes more than a dozen Web logs covering media gossip, politics, Hollywood, electronic gadgets and more. The sites draw more than 4.5 million unique visitors a month, according to Gawker.

Other non-traditional media Yahoo has added to its site include The Huffington Post, a blog and news site operated by columnist Arianna Huffington. In addition, the company recently added blogs and user-contributed photos to Yahoo News Search.

The five Gawker sites contributing content to Yahoo as of Wednesday include Gawker, Wonkette, Gizmodo, Defamer, and Lifehacker.
