If one of the community values of open source is participation, I figured it was high time I participated by doing more than just using a product. This week I sat down and filed bug reports for OpenOffice -- or rather, affirmed that I'd like to see this feature added and that I had that problem as well.
The two problems I had were 39906 (closed as "WORKSFORME", so I'm looking to see if someone else has re-filed a more recent version of the same bug) and 92730. The former is about OpenOffice opening documents very slowly across a network link (in my case, between two Windows boxes); the latter is about wanting a different kind of ordinal numbering for documents -- "One", "Two", "Three", etc., instead of Roman or Arabic numerals.
