AT&T is rolling out a smartphone that may make subscribers ditch their digital cameras: the Sony Ericsson C905a packs a whopping 8-megapixel camera.

This is the highest-resolution camera AT&T has ever offered, and the handset has multiple features that should please shutterbugs. The C905a comes with face-detection software, smart contrast, image stabilizer, white balancing, and the ability to geotag photos with the integrated GPS chip.

The photos won't be trapped on the phone, as users can share the pictures via MMS, or through a personal e-mail account from Yahoo Mail, Windows Live Mail, and more. Additionally, the handset can use the integrated Wi-Fi and 3G to share pictures online at sharing sites such as Flickr and Facebook.

The C905a can also be used as a camcorder, capturing video at 30 frames per second. These photos and videos will take up a lot of space, but users can expand the phone's 120 MB of internal memory via the Micro M2 memory stick.

Sony Ericsson's latest handset can be used for more than just pictures though, as it comes with a Web browser, is compatible with Exchange ActiveSync, and comes with Bluetooth. The handset is also capable of playing various audio and media files.

AT&T is a bit behind the game in bringing out a phone with such a strong lens; T-Mobile announced it is the Samsung Memoir earlier this year, which also packs an 8-megapixel camera. The C905a will be available July 19 for $179.99 after rebates and a new two-year contract.
