A New Jersey father has created an online tool to help improve children's sports skills and parents' coaching chops.

Don Donaldson's PlaySportsTV Web site provides a network of coaches, sports parenting experts, and professional athletes, as well as video tips for several sports. The site features playbooks, drills, and other information on baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, and more.

"I wanted to create a Web site that helps kids learn how to play the game," Donaldson said in an announcement. "Though there's been an explosion in the popularity of youth sports leagues across the country -- 58 million U.S. children play in organized leagues every year -- we may have lost the 'fun factor.' That goes for youth players and their parents. Playing sports is not always about winning and losing. It's also about participating to the best of your abilities, creating positive experiences, and practicing good sportsmanship."

Donaldson has organized the content so parents and children can look up a specific sport, browse playbooks, and search from hundreds of videos according to age or playing level.

Westlake Investment Group, which funds professional sports, media, entertainment, and emerging technologies, recently contributed money to PlaySportsTV. Its chairperson, William Chang, co-manages the D.C. United soccer team and is a principal partner of the San Francisco Giants.

The American Library Association's Association for Library Service to Children has said the site is great for kids.

"PlaySportsTV is for the busy working mom or dad who has just become the coach of their child's soccer team," Donaldson said. "They can quickly go to the Web site and find what they need to teach kids how to play soccer, for example.
