BEA Systems has released a technology preview of the WebLogic 10 application server, a key component of the company's platform for service-oriented architectures.

In addition, the San Jose, Calif., company on Wednesday made generally available Workshop, an Eclipse-based integrated development environment for WebLogic.

The products were released at the BEAWorld user conference in Beijing. The WebLogic upgrade implements the latest Java specifications, including Java Enterprise Edition 5 and Enterprise Java Beans 3.0. The application server also includes better Web services support, security and interoperability with third-party open source and proprietary platforms.

WebLogic 10 is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of next year. The technology preview is available through the company's Website.
