Boost Mobile Drops Prices For CDMA CustomersBoost Mobile Drops Prices For CDMA Customers
In the wake of its unlimited offering for iDen customers, Boost Mobile is offering a price cut of up to $20 for CDMA users.
Boost Mobile is cutting the prices of its monthly service for those who use the CDMA network.
The mobile operator, a fully owned subsidiary of Sprint Nextel, shook up the prepaid market by offering unlimited calls, texts, mobile Web access, and push-to-talk capabilities for $50 per month without a contract. This offering was only good for devices using the iDen network, however, and Boost still has customers in 13 states that use the CDMA network.
Boost said CDMA customers on the "UNLTD By Boost" plan will only have to pay $50 a month from now on, which could be a price cut of up to $20 a month for some users. These CDMA users will still have to pay taxes and surcharges, which is something iDen users don't have to worry about.
"Our primary focus is to grow Boost Mobile on the Nextel National Network," said Matt Carter, Boost Mobile's president, in a statement. "However, we haven't forgotten about our valued UNLTD By Boost customers on the CDMA network. We've simplified our portfolio, which allows us to continually serve each and every one of our customers with one of the best values in the industry."
The move comes as the prepaid market is seeing a surge of interest and new customers during the global economic slowdown. In its first full quarter since offering its $50 unlimited plan, Boost said it added about 700,000 new customers, and is looking to expand its retail presence. Additionally, prepaid providers such as MetroPCS, Leap Wireless, and Virgin Mobile have experienced record additions of new subscribers.
