Optimism about business conditions is on the rise among CIOs and CFOs, according to a newly released survey by Tatum Partners.

In a survey of 168 managers conducted earlier this month and released Monday, 68% of respondents say they expect business conditions to improve in the next 60 days. That's the most optimistic response to predicted business conditions that the monthly survey has indicated in more than a year. Among respondents, 29% expect business conditions to remain the same, and only 3% see them getting worse.

When asked whether business had improved in the previous 30 days, 42% of respondents said yes. The percentage of respondents giving an affirmative answer to that question has risen steadily each month since March, when just 20% of respondents said they had seen improved business conditions. In the August survey, 49% of respondents said business conditions were about the same, and 8% said they had worsened.

The survey respondents are partners at Tatum, a company that places executives in CIO and CFO positions, typically on a contract basis. Respondents are located throughout the country and in various vertical industries, with the highest concentration of respondents based on the West Coast and employed in manufacturing and processing.
