Saving money is always important, but in these economic times it's the difference between staying in business and closing up shop. As the recession grinds on the cost cutting resources are growing.Of course, our preferred resource for dealing with the recession is bMighty's own Financial Crisis Survival Kit. You'll find not only coverage and commentary about the recession, but also a host of resources to trim your IT costs, make your advertising more effective, even how to avoid costly lawsuits.

And though our Financial Crisis Survival Kit is chockfull of resources for your business, it's by no means the only resource to help you save money. Today, our own Fred Paul is out with a pragmatic guide to choosing technology solutions you really need over those you really want. He calls it Plan B, but in many cases, it may be your Plan A.

Digging into tech cost cutting specifically, bMighty research partner Info-Tech Research's guide to Opportunities and Challenges In IT Cost Reduction outlines a proven, research-based framework for strategic IT cost management that you can start using now to cut your costs without crippling your business. This premium content retails for $2,000 but is available FREE with registration courtesy of bMighty.

There, of course, resources beyond bMighty for identifying cost savings. Earlier this week, managed services provider Megapath unveiled its Connected Small & Medium Business page, where you'll find resources to help your business save on connectivity, managed security, and mobility services.

At some point saving money comes down to simple calculations. And with all the talk about how SaaS can save your business big bucks, it's high time to see how those numbers pencil out. SaaS provider PHASE 2 offers a calculator that allows you to estimate the per user costs of several common software licenses and compare what you'll spend on each compared to SaaS offerings. But there is a catch -- the comparison is to PHASE 2 services, but an interesting comparison nonetheless.

Even if you have the most low-tech businesses out there you still have energy costs. That's why taking steps to trim your power bill are so appealing and the savings are real. Of course, bMighty has some insights about how to trim your power consumption, but so do industry-leading vendors like Emerson Network Power.

Another area where trimming dollars is seductive is hardware. bMighty's guide to buying hardware cost effectively is an invaluable resources, but don't overlook the SMB sites of major hardware vendors like Dell and HP where you'll find not only cost cutting tips, but special offers that may bring IT you need within reach.
