Business-intelligence software from Corporate Radar to simplify data-analysis process.
Clif Bar Inc., the fast-growing maker of energy-boosting nutrition bars, was expending too much of its own energy mining data, not analyzing it. This year, the company, which generates more than $100 million in annual sales, began using business-intelligence software from Corporate Radar to simplify its financial and sales reporting. This month, Clif Bar is expanding its use of the software to analyze sales to individual retailers.
Clif Bar's finance department used to spend hours every month extracting sales and financial data from the company's J.D. Edwards & Co. applications, loading it into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and distributing them to managers. "The propensity for error was very high," says finance director Richard Boragno.
Corporate Radar's Web-based Business Intelligence Framework now automates the process of building reports. The result: "People are making better decisions," Boragno says. This month, Clif Bar is installing the .Net version of the software as it upgrades its IT system to Windows 2003 Server. The company also plans to use the software to analyze the profit contributions of its eight distribution channels and individual retailers. Down the road, Clif Bar wants to give its raw-materials suppliers, contract manufacturers, and brokers access to purchasing and sales-forecast reports.
