Gluecode Software, an open source application infrastructure company, today announced the general availability of Gluecode Portal Server 3.5, the latest version of Gluecode's open source enterprise portal. Gluecode Portal Server 3.5 empowers organizations to more easily deploy customized, dynamic portal applications, and now offers support for key standards, including Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) and JSR 168.
"Gluecode Portal Server allows us to rapidly develop customized application views that provide better service to our customers," said Brent Siler, Director of IT at EXP Pharmaceuticals. "By building our customer extranet on open standards, we're able to extend our platform over time while lowering application maintenance costs."
Built on Apache Jetspeed 1.5, the Apache Software Foundation's open source implementation of an enterprise information portal, Gluecode Portal Server 3.5 now supports clustering to ensure high availability of critical business applications and to provide load balancing across multiple servers for improved quality of service. According to the announcement, it also simplifies deployment on any J2EE application server, enabling customers to leverage existing investments in application infrastructure.
Gluecode Portal Server incorporates native support for two portal industry standards, WSRP and JSR 168. WSRP simplifies the integration of portlets across disparate portal platforms, while JSR 168 provides a standardized Java API to ensure broad interoperability across J2EE-portlets. Gluecode Portal Server provides tools for drag-and-drop deployment of WSRP and JSR168 portlets, as well as tools for producing WSRP-compliant portlets that can be consumed by another portal platform. Gluecode is a voting member of the OASIS WSRP technical committee, and has been active in the evolution of the WSRP specification.
"Gluecode is committed to providing companies enterprise applications that offer optimal features and scalability, coupled with flexibility and choice through open standards," said Winston Damarillo, CEO of Gluecode. "Extension of our commercial-quality, open source products with support for key industry standards such as WSRP and JSR 168 will help our customers leverage their application development efforts and lower their total cost of ownership."
