Apple isn't the only company with a tablet computer in the works. Google's forthcoming Chrome OS may debut in tablet form, too. Chrome OS's lead designer Glen Murphy posted a video that demonstrates what a tablet version of Chrome OS might look like. After watching the below video, it's fair to say that Apple's vision of tablet computing is more complete than Google's. Remember, Google's Chrome OS isn't going to be available until summer 2010 the earliest, and probably not until the fall. So don't expect to see any Chrome tablets hitting store shelves in the near (and maybe even distant) future. The Apple iPad will be available in March.

That said, Google's Glen Murphy took a well-time opportunity to share his vision to what tablet computing might be like. In the demonstration, you can see a user interacting with his/her Gmail inbox, altering the settings, and performing a Google search. It also shows off some multitouch features, such as reshaping an open window.

While it's rudimentary, I think it is obvious that multitouch-based user interfaces are what's going to make tablet computing really take off. Get rid of the stylus or digitizer. Let people use what comes naturally, their fingers.
